•You’ll need a training buddy to act as your spotter (or ask someone in the gym to help you). Alternatively, you can use a Smith machine to hook a bar on and off for safety.

•Lie back on a flat bench. Either place both feet on the bench or have them on either side of the bench on the floor.

•Take the bar with your hands positioned just over shoulder-width apart.

•You should be helped with the first part of the exercise, especially when there’s a lot of weight on the bar.

•Slowly lower the bar to your chest.

•Explode back to the start position with your elbows locked out or straight.
